Rated 5 out of 5 by from I was a bit worried about the price tag...but The headphones went on sale and I go them because - I miss listening to music on LPs. The sound was so rich and the headphones made it better; back in the day. Now with all the compression, we miss the good in music. I wanted to get a pair of nice headphones, paired them with a FIIO Amp/DAC and OMG. I am back! I am loving music again. These headphones are amazing. :)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great build, quality materials, fantastic fit The sound out of this set is so balanced and enjoyable I wish that I could take them everywhere. I have nothing to say bad about the things that make this a headset. The pros are in the title. Cons - Extremely long cable that is not detachable Ear cups could be a smidge deeper (this is because I have large stick out ears) That's all.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sonic Heaven Well like others I searched for headphones that are reasonably priced, sound great, and are comfortable. Taken advantage of Haman sales, I purchased the AKG wireless 50 BT for my office and daily commuting and could get over the sound quality for a wireless headphone. When the K550 went on sale, I immediately researched the reviews and found out quickly how good these were. Plop down my money and after careful break in, I put on some hi res music. What!!?? Wow!!! On a very old recording that I have listen to for over 40 plus years I could hear the buzz of the amplifiers! The details inside the music was breath taking. With a little sum of money my vast music collection was re-born. Bass heads look elsewhere. But, if you have properly heard music presented in HIGH fidelity than these are for you. These totally immerse me in the music regardless of the source.Faannnntttaaaassssttttiiiiccc!!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from MORE CLAMP... I NEED MORE HEAD SQUEEZIN POWER!!! Overview: Ok so about a month ago, I bought another set of headphones for this awesome sale price at the time and wanted to own a pair of AKG's to add to my arsenal. I have m50's from Audio Technica and my favorite Senn 650HD. I have other cans and earphones too but not going to mention it for this review. So for this review I will use the m50 for comparison as the rest are in different categories of their own and open back for the 650's. Packaging: Very well constructed stylish looking box. Opening it is a very typical plastic mold with twist tie to hold the cans in place for shipment and packaging. Simple not complicated to open. Build & Appearance: First impressions of the cans I thought it was very well built and sturdy. So no fragile breaks from falls or setting it down aggressively. Most of it has metal parts for construction, like for example the clamp that holds the cans on your head. The foam cushion that goes on top of your head is thin but soft. COMPLAINT: This is pretty much my only and main complaint that it doesn't have enough clamping force to hold and stay in place. I don't know of any modification I can do as of yet to improve the clamping force for this set. I can understand why some others out there say that the cans do not sound good due to the fact they can not get a good seal over their ears. To me, the culprit lies with the overhead clamp strength isn't holding n place for the cups not to swivel side to side and undo the seal on your head. If there is a remedy for this then most reviewer will say otherwise. The brackets that physically hold each ear is also made out of metal. The cups itself and some moving parts are made of plastic. The cushion that goes over your ears are very soft, almost like a fine soft leather couch that you would sink in when you lay on (of course not as comfortable like my 650's). Inside each cup are LARGE L & R labels that show which cups goes to on which side. I find that prolong wearing of this head set is comfortable. As with any closed back you will come across some fatigue and sweat as it seals your ears. Upon storage, the cups turn 180 degrees to lay it flat. It only turns flat one way, if goes the other way it will not turn completely flat and you will end up breaking it if forced. Very long straight cord with an attachment adapter at the end for easy plugin to peripherals. Take it out it will plugin to like a bigger jack like electric piano, or guitar, not your 3.5mm jack (sorry I'm not an audiophile so I don't know my parts). Sound: Everyone hears and perceives sounds differently, but for the most part we hear most frequencies. This is a very NEUTRAL sounding with a very wide soundstage. What that means to me, neutral meaning there is no artificial sound like boosting of bass or boosting amp to make the sound stand out more. So the sound comes out as it should sound naturally. The soundstage to me means when I hear a sound, where it is coming from like if I am at a live concert or studio. This is wide soundstage where I feel I am sitting in a classical orchestra and the stage I see where the musicians play is very wide and you can hear different instruments from either side very distinctively. My 650's have a tall sound stage and it feels like the sound is coming from up high, like you hear it down a tall concert room. Of course you can't compare the open back 650's to this as it is closed back. It's like comparing apples and bananas. So I will compare the m50's since it is also closed back. These are 32ohms so any peripherals is able to play it with no problem. When you get high like the 650's pushing 300ohms you would require an amp to make sure the headphones are being driven with proper amount of power. The m50's to me gives off an artificial boosted sound (like beats but WAY better and cheaper than beats) the mk's on the other hand it is not so much built in boost. The mk's is NOT for bass heads. The lows are there, very refined, not profoundly untraceable, you know that it is there. The mids are very low neutral but can be made out. Highs are clear and not piercing, but can be on certain tracks. Final thoughts: Overall these are a very good for referencing music to its natural state. Compared to my m50s I do like this set a lot more when I am looking for the more refined, natural sound when I am listening to my classical, Adelle type music. When I need something more energy rock and electric, hip hop, I would reach for my m50s. When I am by myself with nobody home and want the all around best I put on my 650's.

Is there any way to get original replacement pads for these headphones directly through AKG? As I really don't want them to end up on a landfill when they still function really well.
