Closed-back performance meets open back sound

AKG K553 MKII is the ideal closed-back, over-ear studio headphone for monitoring, mixing and mastering. Designed for peak performance and maximum comfort, AKG K553 MKII combines the noise-isolating qualities of a closed-back headphone with the spacious, dimensional sound of an open-back design. The 2” (50mm) low-impedance drivers provide strong, accurate, and distinguished bass response, with enough sensitivity for precise sound reproduction on laptops and mobile devices. Extra-large soft ear pads ensure stress-free listening over long sessions. AKG K553 MKII even features a detachable cable and 2D-axis mechanism that enables flat folding for easy storage or handling on the road.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing pair of headphones! I bought these a month ago and I absolutely love them! They are so detailed and the soundstage on them is truly outstanding. I mainly use these for gaming because they are absolutely perfect for it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Sound & Comfortable Fit for Sub $200 I purchased this headset about a week ago and so far I am pleased. I was looking for something under $200 that provides all day comfort and great sound quality to boot. I think this hit the mark. The sound quality is very nice - mids and highs are on par. Bass is not as prominent as I would like, but overall very well done for the price. The build is wonderful - Padding in the cans is very soft and comfortable - overall very lightweight but feels very solid in your hands. My only issue is that after a few hours of constant wear I do find the need to take a break for a few minutes to rest my ears.

Would an AMP DAC benefit this headset at all?

Asked by: TheCalvinist
No, it is 32 ohms, you can, although what you would get out of it would be considered a waste of money. There is no difference in the volume capabilites, although there will be the slightest improvement in sound quality, these are studio headphones, which were meant to be used without an amp. A dac would be good though, so yes, a dac would be worth ge money.

This has been asked multiple times here but doesn't seem to be getting answered, just wondering what the differences are between the K553 Pro and the K553 MKII?

Asked by: gjg5131
Hello Gabriel. The only difference between the AKG K553 Pro and AKG K553 MKII is that the latter one has a detachable audio cable while the first one has a fixed audio cable.

Like everyone else I’d love to know the differences between the mkii & the mki if any.  I think an answer here, out in the open, would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Is there any difference between the 553 MKII's and the 550 MKIII's? I have owned several pairs of 550's before and currently have a pair of 553 Pros and the detachable is very appealing.

Asked by: Keegan_M
The K550 MKII and K553 headphones actually are similar and the main difference will be the components or materials that were used to create them. But if you'd like a more detailed explanation of the specs or product, we would like to work with you directly to help you with your issue. Please submit a case request at https://www.akg.com/support-contact-pro.html and the Customer Service Team will be more than happy to assist you.

Same question as others since the question isn’t being answered. Is there a difference between the Pro version and the MKII. I’m talking soundwise and frequency response.
