Closed-back reference over-ear headphones.

With the K550MKIIIs, AKG® engineers have struck a masterful balance between the noise-isolating qualities of closed back headphones and the spacious, dimensional sound of an open-back design – creating reference-class headphones ideal for private listening both at home and on the go. 50mm drivers, the largest in our product line, deliver great AKG sound from your hi-fi system or virtually any portable device. The large ear cups and new headband design ensure an amazingly comfortable fit, and the 2D-Axis mechanism folds flat to stow or go.

I have the K550 (first version so i guess MKI). Besides the detachable cable in the MKIII is there any difference between the MKI and MKIII sonically speaking?

Asked by: polskasweetie
Hi, and thank you for supporting AKG!. The three version are all identical in all respects that pertain to audio. They also have the same parts numbers for ear pads and headband pad. So, the only difference between your K550 and the MKIII is indeed the detachable cable.

Can these ever be used as a wireless unit? Sorry, the last headphones I purchased were over 20 years ago. I want something I can plug into the front of my stereo receiver but the wireless feature is appealing as well.

Asked by: zini
Unfortunately the AKG K550 MKIII is not a wireless headphone. It comes with a detachable 3.5 mm cable.

Is the build the same as the older mkII ( build materials and ear cup dimensions )?

Asked by: rayray
We can confirm that the MKIII is totally identical to the prior versions, except for the detachable cable. All spare parts are identical, the few we carry, ear pads, headband pad etc. All dimensions are of course identical.

Will the cable from akg k701/702 fit this model?

Asked by: rayray
The cables that are used in these models are 3.5mm so it should fit.
