The microphone shall be a hypercardioid miniature condenser clip-on microphone for use on drums and percussions. It shall be fitted with a shock mounted transducer housing to compensate for mechanical noise, a swivel joint integrated in the microphone arm for continuous adjustment to various instruments, and a clamp for direct attachment to an instrument. The microphone shall be available in a version for hardwire use with external phantom powering (C 418 PP) and in a version for wireless use or powering via an AKG B 29 L battery supply (C 418 L). The frequency range of the microphone shall be 50 Hz to 20 kHz, its sensitivity at 1 kHz 4 mV/Pa, max. SPL 140 dB SPL (for 3% THD), signal/noise ratio 56 dB (A-weighted). The microphone shall measure 75 x 35 mm, be finished in matte black, and weigh 126 g ("PP" version) or 62 g ("L" version). The microphone shall be the C 418 made by AKG.
