Recording on a portable recorder

Optimum results can be achieved with recorders that offer an XLR connector and phantom powering.

In general, we recommend the use of condenser microphones for recording music. For recording interviews we recommend the tried and tested C 1000 S or a proven handheld dynamic microphone like the D 5.

  • Live sound recording: C 214, C 1000 S, C 3000, Perception 220, Perception 150, C 451 B
  • Orchestra / ensemble recording: C 451 B, C 1000 S, C 214, C 414, Perception 420
  • Interview: C 1000 S, D 5, D 5 S, D 7, D 7 S, D 230

If you want to use a condenser microphone, the recorder will need phantom powering. If your portable recorder does not offer phantom powering, we recommend our tried and tested C 1000 S. One of its special features is that you can power it with an internal 9-volt battery. Therefore, no phantom powering is required.

Alternatively, you can also use dynamic microphones for portable recorders without phantom powering.
