Germany: Nibelungen Festival in Worms

AKG wireless systems contribute to triumphant success
During fifth Worms Festival, 32 AKG WMS 4000 wireless systems were used successfully for about 100 actors and extras performing play about fall of Burgundians.

The German town of Worms, one of the scenes of the ancient German "Nibelungen" legend, provided the location for this festival commemorating the story of Siegfried the dragon killer and the end of the Burgundians for the fifth time from July 20 through August 5, 2007.
As in the years before, this famous event took place in front of the magic backdrop of the Worms Imperial Cathedral, at the original scene of the medieval epic.
Dieter Wedel staged Moritz Rinke's play "Die Nibelungen - Die letzten Tage von Burgund" (The Nibelungs - The Last Days Of Burgundy) as a political thriller with some brilliant actors.
About 100 extras also appeared in the performance of this roughly 800-year-old Middle High German epic. Swords, scepters, and knights' armors in front of the original scenery enthralled the audience.

A total of 32 AKG WMS 4000 bodypack transmitters were needed to mic up the large number of performers in the production.
Medienpark VISION Christian Ruppel from Worms set up only two pairs of antennas to pick up the transmitter signals from all over the cathedral square and backstage area. The backstage pair was used for monitoring of the transmitter signals. Two 410-ft. (125-m) RG213U coaxial cables connected the antennas to the receivers.
Two AB 4000 active in-line RF boosters in each line made sure to compensate for any cable attenuation en route to the PS 4000 antenna splitters. Christian Ruppel used four HUB 4000s and appropriate network compatible MCS 4000 software to monitor all parameters such as the RF level, battery status, and audio level of each bodypack transmitter on a single computer screen.
Microphones used for speech pickup included the tiny CK 77 WR L/P lavalier microphone and C 477 WR L/P head-worn model.
