November 2011 Celebrating its first holiday album release since 2002, Rockapella has taken to its arranger’s project studio in Tampa, Florida to record Rockapella Holiday – a new take on holiday albums, featuring Kwanzaa, Chanukah, New Year and Christmas arrangements. Utilizing AKG C214 microphone for arranging, demos and recording, the group’s complete vocal sound continues to offer a unique spin on classic and some modern holiday favorites.
“As an a cappella group, it’s important to emphasize every part of our intricate harmonies for the final product,” said Scott Leonard, the longest tenured member of the group. “Fortunately for us, recording in our own project studio, we only need one mic. The AKG C 214 is so versatile, so transparent; it captures the true sound of each part. Mixing after putting the individual vocal tracks through AKG allows us to have a vibrant, colorful product.” Rockapella prides itself on providing fans, live or listening to recordings, with an original sound. Rockapella Holiday’s variety offers the nostalgia of the holidays, with the wow factor and edge the group has been know for over the past two decades. Currently touring with the legendary Boston Pops orchestra, the album also features a cappella arrangements of the two groups’ collaborations during the tour. The album also includes the Dreidel song, Angels We Wave Heard On High, Little Drummer Boy, among others. “Our recordings have to be special, earning the right to exist, not just put out there for the sake of selling,” Leonard continued.
