AKG supports Europe’s largest AIDS charity event for the fourth time
Celebrate life – that’s the motto of the Life Ball, held every year in Vienna, Austria since 1993. So it was once again on 16 May 2009. The aim of Europe’s largest Aids charity event is to gather donations and to help national support projects and seriously affected regions worldwide. AKG has been an active participant in the Life Ball for four years. This year, AKG provided all the microphones for shows on a total of six stages. The absolute highlight was the fashion show by The Blonds, presented by US style icon Patricia Field and launched by Pamela Anderson. Currently New York’s hippest designer duo, The Blonds, presented the spectacular creations of the “Sex and the City”-stylist – and to cap it all, Katy Perry attended in person. “We use a large AKG portfolio for the bands, presenters and star guests – ranging from 30 WMS 4500 radio systems to 20 IVM 4 in-ear monitor systems,” said Walter Rührig, Artist & Key Customer Relations. “A total of 200 microphones were in use. It is always a great experience for us to be involved in the Life Ball. And we are happy to have been able to support the 2009 event with so many products.” The media also focused plenty of attention on the Aids charity event: “More than 500 national and international representatives of the media reported from the Life Ball,” continued Walter. “With such a huge media presence it is a real challenge to coordinate the entire radio system simultaneously with around 70 international TV and radio stations – ORF (Austrian Radio) even broadcasts the Ball live.” The list of celebrities attending the event was long: From Bill Clinton, Kate Perry, Eva Longoria, Fran Drescher and Vera Böhnisch to Ivana Trump, Roisin Murphy, Sisters Sledge, Dave Stewart & Cindy Gomez – all were there to help and to put their name to the public effort to promote Aids support.
