Hi,

I am wondering, what are the differences between these two headphones (besides physical attributes)?

Hi,

I can't comment on the K 141 MK II, since I haven't used it.

I do know the K 240 Studio, which is virtually identical to the MK II as far as the acoustics are concerned.

However, I do have the older, 600 Ohm "Monitor" versions of both headphones so I can try to make a comparison.

The K 240 seems to have a bit more bass overall and seems to reproduce the lowest octave more easily.
It also has more treble due to a different design of the "diffusor" in front of the driver (not sure if this is the case with 55 Ohms K 141's!).

Obviously, the K 141 is a supra-aural design, which means it rests on your ear, while the K 240 is circumaural - it rests on your head and encloses your ear (if you have very large ears or ears that stick out, they might still touch the earpads or the baffle on which the capsule is mounted).

I prefer the K 240, because I find it more comfortable to wear.

Supra-aural phones such as K 141s or K 171s simply have to put some pressure on the outer ear so they don't fall off your head when you move.

Like the sound which has to suit your personal listening curve, this is a matter of preference.

It is usually a good idea to try a pair of headphones before you buy them.

Both the K 240 and K 141 have been popular studio phones for more than 30 years, but obviously they are different because there are different users and different applications.

If you'd like some isolation, you might also want to consider their closed-back "brothers", the K 171 and the K 271.

Maybe somebody who actually knows the 55 Ohms versions can give you a more detailed comparison.

I hope this helps,

Stephan
