AKG K702 owner feedback to AKG

Hi

I bought AKG K702 few months back.
They sound soo good, i enjoy sound quality really very very much.

But i also want to let you know they are insanely uncomfortable on top of the head.
* The leather is hard and the leather arch is inflexible.
* Together with strong self adjusting / regulation mechanism they compress wavy cavities on top of my head,
and it hurts.
* The damage they do to my top of the head doesn't go fully away after 3 days not using at all them.

Compared to AKG K401 they are more uncomfortable.
K401 regulation mechanism isn't that tight and the over the head arch is more flexible.

I made soft cushion 2cm thick to put between my head and hard leather arch,
now the self adjusting mechanism fully extended has not enough out extension space and the headphone ear paddings
bottoms push on my ears and on fully extended they put much stronger force on top of my head than just their weight.
It feels like the paddings force my ears up and top of the head down like jaw wrench.
Self adjusting mechanism doesn't keep my desired / selected length and pulls ear paddings back up.

Problem is all pressure is put on 2-3 hard leather paddings on bottom of the leather arch.

I used to use them 5 - 12 hours a day, even 16
it hurt but now i have discovered that my top of the head gets deformed heavily - not sure how safe it is.
I still use them, thy are the best sounding headphones by far i own now.

Hi Meelis,

there is a solution for a better wearing comfort - if you visit your local dealer and ask for a modification with a K 601 headband you´ll be lucky.
The K 601 headband is flat on the inner side without any bumps.

There is no local dealer in Estonia.

Is there tutorial how to remove the headband and install back on.
I can make the headband myself maybe.
or is it possible to send K 601 headband and this 2 metal connection thingies via postpack to me.

If it's possible where can is send my request and what info i need to include other than address / contact info?

Hi,

it should be possible for you to swap the inner headband yourself.

Have a look at the service documents:

K601/701:

The part you want should be 2458M9801 (inner headband, complete, K601).

Don't order a K701 headband since those also have the bumps you don't like.

It looks as if the inner headband can actually be removed without opening the earpieces themselves.

I'm sure they can also do the modification for you, should you decide not to do it yourself. But if you're careful and don't use brute force, you should be fine.

Not sure what you mean... The K601 headband is the one to get because it has no "bumps".

Construction-wise, all three should be very similar.


The address I posted is the official dealer for Estonia. They should certainly be able to order spare parts if your local dealer can't.

I ment on photo was 701 spare part and i got an idea how it looks more or less (together with transparent plastic parts).
