I'm using the AKG GHS1 gaming headset to game on an Xbox 360 with an Astro Mixamp.  I really like the sound of the headset, but I have a problem with the mic sensitivity.  I need to almost shout in order to be heard using this headset while gaming.  I'm pretty certain the headset is not broken or anything as all is well when I plug it into my computer and/or smartphone.

I guess the signal coming from the mic isn't as strong as the one coming from other PC headsets I have used with no problems.   Anyone else experienced this issue?  Solutions?

Hi ATB,
This is a strange story.
The mic sensitivy of the GHS is about 20 mV/Pa which is fairly high compared to other brands (for example: another competitor PC 350 has 13 mV/Pa ) So it seems to be a problem of adjustment.
The MMX 300 from Beyerdynamic has also 20 mV/Pa - so you see that they are all equal and it must be a problem somewhere but not at the GHS.

kind regards

Thanks much for your response last month!  I'm sorry I didn't see this sooner (I should be notified of activity in this thread next time you  respond...)

You mentioned other headsets...I have used both the Beyerdynamic MMX 300 and another competitor PC 360 (same mic sensitivity as PC 350) on my Xbox 360 / Astro Mixamp setup without issue, so I think the setup is ok.

Before reading your post, I assumed that the mic sensitivity of the GHS 1 was lower.  Where did you get the mic sensitivity spec on the GHS 1?  I wasn't able to find it on AKG's site, so I must be looking in the wrong area.  Do you happen to know if it uses a dynamic or condenser mic?  Given the sensitivity you quoted, I would assume the GHS 1 uses a condenser mic, as dynamics are often much less sensitive.  I know the MMX 300's mic is a condenser, so the mixamp must provide the little bit of voltage needed to power it.
