k271 sound in right ear gone

I have had a pair of k271s for about two years. They are hardly used and sounded great until one day the right speaker cut out. I replaced the cable today, but the problem is still there.
There is normally sound in both speakers for a minute or so before the ríght side becomes distorted and then cuts out completely.
It doesnt seem to be the switch on the left side, but if I careful stretch the headband up and down there seems to be a spot where the sound will cut in and out.
I would appreciate aný advice or help you can offer would be greatly appreciated. I can't find my receipt but I suspect that the phones are just outside the warrenty. I still have the box and otherwise the headphones and packaging are in perfect condition.

ps i just noticed another post here where a guy is complaining of a problem with the right speaker....no idea if this is a related problem
