I have had my current K-701s since last August and although I am very pleased with them there is an occasional ringing/vibrating/rattling sound in the left earpiece.

This has been evident since I got the headphones and was something I thought would disappear over time once they had warmed up and had a good workout!

I don't really use them very often but even so, I think I am going to have to face the fact that, after more than a year of fairly light use, this increasingly irritating problem is not going to go away and it is now time to contact Customer Services.

This particular pair of headphones, (22369), were a replacement for a previous pair that arrived with no sound at all from one of the channels.

Has anybody else had similar problems?

Similar problem.
I've got K172s here. Been using them for little more than 3 months now, around 6 hours a day and the left driver sounds like there is something loose inside (so to say), very obvious/annoying when listening to low frequencies, otherwise still audible until mid-high frequencies.  Tested on x-fi prelude with equaliser/bass boost turned off, 100% volume (it's still there on 50%, I usually listen to around 40% where it's also quite annoying but then I've turned on the bass boost/equaliser so it's not that different). Same thing happens on an iPod touch 2g, an XQ-100, some integrated laptop sound card, an iMac... Guess the source is not to blame here Smiley
To an extend it actually sounds like distortion and I'm wondering whether I've damaged the cable somehow. I'll be going to the vendor tomorrow, will edit if there's anything to add. Good luck Smiley
Just to add what I'm listening to - mostly everything, lately vibrasphere.

EDIT:
My bad that I didn't see those earlier...
This and, more importantly, this Smiley

Very interesting.

Your description of the noise sounding like "there is something loose inside" perfectly describes the problem I have with the K-701.

AKG must be aware of this problem - there are numerous posts on here about exactly the same thing - yet, like so many companies they still sell their defective goods and leave it up to the purchaser to sort out.

Do these people not have a quality control department? Or perhaps they are not familiar with the saying "Once bitten twice shy".

My K-701s will be going back.

Well in the 2nd topic I linked the representative says that it's a bad driver... I imagine that can always happen. Mine was perfectly fine when I got it (e.g. QC-pass I suppose), then it started showing signs like, I guess, two months ago or something like that (noticed it when playing cs1.6 on clan wars). Didn't have the time to return it today, will do so tomorrow hopefully...

Also I forgot to mention something that I noticed a while ago... Here is a link.
That sound wasn't present when I noticed the scratches on the connector(plugging it in my creative zen v plus, I know it's weak but my other player wasn't and still isn't working). Wondering how that happened now... (obvious bumps there... can't believe that's because of plugging it in/out)

The rattling noise stops when I take off my glasses. The  (thin metal) frame seems to rub against the pads.

Sometime an intruded hair could make this "sound"
